Ben McAteer is a social scientist working in the field of marine governance. He has an interest in analysing power dynamics, knowledge communication, and participation within governance processes. In his PhD, Ben explored the transformative potential of marine citizen science, assessing how it can instigate change to regimes of marine management.
Currently, Ben is a research fellow based in the Planning Department of Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland. He works as a researcher on MarinePlan, an EU-Horizon-funded project that seeks to develop best practice guidance to enhance the design and effectiveness of spatial conservation measures for marine biodiversity. Ben also teaches undergraduate classes on environmental planning and research methods.
