Andrew Scheld is a resource economist and associate professor at the Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, William & Mary. His research program investigates how coastal economies rely on, interact with, and benefit from marine ecosystems, and he has published extensively on topics in fisheries, aquaculture, and coastal management. Dr. Scheld’s current research areas include the valuation of ecosystem services provided by coastal habitats, coexistence of ocean-based renewable energy and seafood production, expansion of low-trophic coastal aquaculture, and the social costs of derelict fishing gear and marine plastic pollution.
