Furqan is an interdisciplinary marine social scientist. His research focuses on coastal fishery livelihoods, social resilience, social well-being, migration, (urban) climate resilience, and fisheries/aquaculture governance. Furqan is an assistant professor at the Centre for Blue Governance at Aalborg University (Denmark) engaging in research projects on improving EU fisheries governance and increasing the uptake of ecosystem-based management in Europe to support a sustainable blue economy via integration of marine biodiversity conservation. His professional experience lies at the intersection of environment, policy, and development via positions at Canadian government, NGO, and intergovernmental levels covering research, environment-policy analysis/implementation, communication, and project coordination.
