John Erik Fossum is a professor and deputy director at the ARENA Centre for European Studies, University of Oslo. He has worked and published widely on issues of identity, democracy, and constitutionalism in the EU and Canada. He held a Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowship (2024, EUI), was project co-ordinator for the H2020-project EU3D– Differentiation, Dominance, Democracy (2019–2023), and has (co)directed numerous other research projects. Recent books: Norway’s EU Experience and Lessons for the UK (Routledge 2023, co-authored: 9 authors); Differentiation and Dominance in Europe’s Poly-Crises (Routledge 2024, co-edited with Jozef Bátora), and A Theory of Segmented Polities – The EU in Perspective, (Cambridge Elements 2026, co-authored with Jozef Bátora and Jarle Trondal).
