Richard C. Fording is the Marilyn Williams Elmore and John Durr Elmore Endowed Professor of Political Science at the University of Alabama. He has published 3 books and 46 articles and book chapters, mostly in the areas of state politics and public policy. His articles have appeared in such journals as the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, American Sociological Review and the American Journal of Sociology, among others. His most recent book (coauthored with Joe Soss and Sanford Schram), Disciplining the Poor: Neoliberal Paternalism and the Persistent Power of Race (University of Chicago Press) won the Herbert A. Simon Book Award, which is awarded by the Public Administration Section of the American Political Science Association for significant contributions to public administration scholarship. He is a former President of the Public Policy organized section of the American Political Science Association.
