Hesam Kamalipour is an Associate Professor in Urban Design and the Co-Founding Director of the Public Space Observatory Research Centre at Cardiff University. His research primarily lies at the intersections of urban design, informal urbanism, public space, urban morphology, and comparative urbanism, with a focus on exploring how forms of urban informality work in a global context. Hesam led a major co-edited project, The Routledge Handbook of Urban Design Research Methods (2023), and is currently involved in several contracted book projects, including leading a monograph on urban design education (Edward Elgar), contributing to one on the spatiality of street vending (Routledge), and authoring a research monograph on informal urban design (Routledge). He holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne.
