Wen Lin is a lecturer in Human Geography in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University, UK.

Her research interests include critical GIS, public participation GIS, and urban geography. Her main research focus on examining the intersection between the development and usage of geospatial technologies and the social and political conditions in which these practices are situated. Dr. Lin utilizes combined frameworks from critical GIS research and urban/political geography to investigate processes of geospatial technology constructions within a variety of urban contexts, and theorizes their socio-political implications for citizen participation and urban governance. Meanwhile, she is interested in employing quantitative methods including GIS technologies to examine a wide range of social and environmental issues. In particular, she has worked on three related themes: investigating the sociopolitical implications of recent mapping practices combined with Web 2.0 technologies, examining GIS-related practices in China’s urban planning agencies, and examining public participation GIS practices in urban governance.

Wen received her Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2009 and obtained her B.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Ecology (with a minor in Economics) from Peking University in 2002.
