Letizia Chiappini is an urban sociologist and digital geographer. She is currently employed as a tenured assistant professor within the Faculty of Behavioural, Management, and Social Sciences at the University of Twente. Letizia holds a double doctorate from the University of Milan-Bicocca and the University of Amsterdam. The broad research interest focuses on digitalisation and platformisation processes and their societal effects in urban spaces. By comparing different contexts, other projects investigate artistic practices related to digital fabrication and makerspaces as an alternative mode of production, while looking at digital literacy, socio-economic justice, and sustainability as outcomes. As a scholar, Letizia adopts critical, feminist, queer, anti-colonial, and anti-racist perspectives. She is the co-founder of the collective Slutty Urbanism, part of the Austrian Pavillon at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2021, with an artistic, written, and photography contribution titled Glitches in Platform Urbanism.
